Green & Purple Goodness

Painted Egg (bird with egg) is from the Cross Eyed Cricket leaflet called "Eggs... etera" (#109).

The chick in a purple dress is my color conversion of Here a Peep There a Peep from With Thy Needle & Thread. My color choices are in this post.

Be Well is a freebie from The Drawn Thread available here. My color choices are in this post. The purple flower trim is from Hobby Lobby.

My sewing room time is being rudely interrupted this week by something called "life" but I'm hoping I can get in there to play a little bit, at least. I seem to have amassed a backlog of Christmas finishing and framing, so if you're in the mood for Christmas in July, I'm your girl. I've also started on one of my summer projects, and there will be a peek of that soon. Don't go far or you'll miss something!

Happy Stitching!

Saturday Sampler: Keeping Busy Edition

Before we get to important stitching news, I want to thank all of you for the continued prayers and the lovely messages for me and my family. I deeply appreciate all of them. This year has not started out as we had hoped, but we are blessed beyond measure and I count all of you among those blessings. I'm thankful to you and for you. (And for Tiger Lily, who has been my constant companion since I returned from Texas.)

Now, let's talk stitching, shall we? First, my 2021 blog book just arrived. This is a yearly tradition I treat myself to every January. I use this service and have always been happy with the books. There are discount codes on their Facebook page (you don't have to have a FB account to see them) and I recommend waiting for a current code if you're thinking of making a book. I am a paper and pencil, hard copy kinda gal, and I love having my blog in book form.

As you might imagine, I didn't get to have my annual Stitchy Planning Week between Christmas and the New Year, so when I got back from Texas I started trying to put my mind to a little planning. At least for the first half of the year, my plans aren't as ambitious as they usually are since we'll be moving at some point. Don't know where, don't know when. Not stressful at all. So I needed some small, enjoyable, accomplishable (new word!) projects to get me through the coming months. Here's what I came up with:

This is free! Twelve pretty, seasonal bouquets and you can see all of them! I've only ever done one mystery SAL (large stitched piece with a common border, and you don't know what's coming) and from that experience I learned I'm not a mystery SAL person. I ended up going my own way on four of the last five installments, and while I'm very happy with the finished piece, I discovered that I'm a bit too much of a control enthusiast to put time and money for supplies into a large project I haven't seen. (If you love them, there are lots starting this month!)

And this is why I love this SAL. I'm stitching each bouquet individually as that's what works for me right now, but if you want to stitch them together, you can see what the finish will look like. January bouquet is up now.

She has also provided a list of all the hand dyed threads needed for the entire project, along with DMC conversions, so if you want to gather your supplies for the whole project, you can do so.

I love the SAL explosion that happens every January. This did not used to be a thing, but in recent years it seems to have really taken off and while I don't do a lot of SALs, I'm happy to see anything that increases interest in stitching. If you'd like to join a SAL, this is a great list:

There are all kinds available. Some are free, some not. Some are mystery, some not. Different techniques.

I think more than SALs, I enjoy monthly series. I guess that can be considered a SAL, but maybe with a series you feel you can drop in and out as you choose, and you don't have to stitch every installment. Or maybe that's just me. Or maybe it's the lack of a border? Maybe I just have psychological issues? If it has a border it's a SAL and if it doesn't it's a series? I have no idea...

Anyway.

This is my second choice and I am so looking forward to it. Last year I stitched her Tea & Coffee Series (still need to stitch December), and I loved it. I was hoping she'd do another series this year, and when I saw it was birds I just melted! I adore birds and I must say, it felt like a little gift just for me. Please do check out her Etsy shop. She has so many pretty things.

Also, keep your eyes open for Nashville Market goodies. I have noticed the very first few items begin to show up, one of which is a new edition of the Market cookbook they began producing a couple of years ago. Very cute little cookbooks with some small designs included. I'll try to remember to post Market preview pages when shops start putting them up.

Lots to look forward to in the stitchy world, and lots to keep busy with. Hope you're all happy and healthy and stitching up a storm!

Fall Finishing & Framing (& Enabling)

I have been playing in my sewing room! Prepare to be enabled!

Squirrel freebie from The Blue Flower

Fancy Pumpkins is available here. (NOTE: I purchased mine from Etsy but the shop owner has since moved her business to her own website. I have not purchased from this website. ALSO: My changes to this design are in this post.)

Halloween Kitties, from an Etsy shop that is unfortunately no longer available. Stitched on PTP Dawn.

Fall Mandala available in this Etsy shop as a set of four seasons.

Spooky Village pulled from Halloween Quaker by Lila's Studio, stitched on 32 ct. PTP Murky.

Back to the sewing room! My finishing & framing sprees are few and far between and I have to make the most of them before life intervenes and I have to go do more "important" things, like... everything. Play whenever you can, y'all!

Happy Stitching!

01 March 2021

Get in, y'all. We're doin' spring.

I am ignoring the piles of snow left around, and the fact that it can snow here at any time for the next two months, and I'm doin' spring. Pardon the nerd talk, but March 1st marks the beginning of meteorological spring (astronomical spring begins in a few weeks), and I am definitely okay with that. For the first time ever, I put out my spring decor before the end of February, and although I had one little winter project left to stitch, I put it aside and jumped to spring. (If we have a spring snow storm, I may pull it out and stitch it up.)

Y'all know that we usually bake from scratch around here, but I am far from a baking snob. Sometimes you need emergency cookies, and there is nothing faster than ready-to-bake cookies, a container of frosting, and some sprinkles. Boom! Emergency Spring Cookies! My favorite combo is sugar cookies with lemon frosting, but try anything. There's no way to mess these up.

The sweet, sleepy baby bunny is available here. And to add to your spring stitching stash, here are a few freebies:

Spring Robin

Easter Basket

Easter Delivery

I have Huckleberry Farm all ready for my first stitches. I don't have a deadline for this project. I just want to stitch it and enjoy it. The pile of threads is the latest addition to my Cosmo collection, and the spring mini lights are from Hobby Lobby.

Hope your weather is warming up nicely. Ours has been so lovely. Tomorrow will be our first open windows day since last fall and I'm so looking forward to it. Fresh air wafting through the house just makes me happy.

Happy Spring, and Happy Stitching!

Six Nice Things

Hey, y'all. How's everybody doing? I think we're better here, but more on that at the end of the post in case you prefer to skip it. I want this to be a stress-free and pleasant place for everyone, but some have very kindly asked after my dad and I'd like to provide an update.

Speaking of pleasantness, I have some nice things for y'all... Ready?

1) It is about to get seriously Christmasy on this blog. The sewing room is tidy, the finishes box is out, and I am in a finishing zone. First in line: our 2020 Christmas ornaments, and my 2019 ornament (how did that get left unfinished?!). And so much more! Will I get it all done? Stay tuned to find out!

2) Super cool fabric. In a moment of madness, I started a sort of large-ish Christmas project even though I already have plenty to stitch (and do!) two and a half weeks before Christmas. Because I wanted to use this fabric. Makes sense. This is Whitewashed Board from Fabric Flair available here. I believe it's also available in 32 ct. and 14 ct. Aida. I can't wait to show y'all this project!

Overseeing my work.

My other project, on a delicious mint green fabric (one whole row of progress before I started the one above!).

3) Freebies. There are a couple of "freebies-in-progress" at the moment and you may want to check them out.

With thy Needle & Thread is running a free SAL called Merry & Minty. It's a four part SAL on her Facebook page, but you do not have to have an account to access the charts.

And there's a 12 Days of Christmas freebie series ongoing. It has a basic color scheme that would be easy and fun to customize.

4) Comfort food. One of my favorite comfort foods is my mom's spaghetti (below), but I also looove chicken spaghetti. This is the recipe I use, although I bake chicken breasts to use in it instead of boiling a whole chicken. It's delicious and it makes a ton. I could eat the whole dish by myself. (But my mom's is still my favorite.)

5) Cinnamon Cake. If you're watching carbs, I just came up with a cinnamon variation on my standby Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake recipe. Simply add 1/4 tsp. cinnamon and swap cinnamon chips for chocolate chips and ta-da! Sort of like a mini, lower carb coffee cake. Mr. Wonderful says he likes it even better than the chocolate chip.

6) The top of Tiger Lily's head. So smoochable.

Hope one of today's goodies has taken your fancy and brightened your day! Have a good one!

Update:

My dad was finally able to move out of the hospital to a (different) rehab center this past Monday. We are much more comfortable with this new facility than the one he went to initially, but he still has a long road ahead. He went into the hospital, strong and healthy, on 30 October for a serious but not uncommon surgery that should have required only an overnight stay. And here we are nearly six weeks later. It has been nightmarish, but the Lord has blessed us in so many ways over these difficult weeks. I so appreciate your kind words and your prayers. Y'all are one of my blessings. Thank you.

Spur of the Moment Fall Festival!

Grab a cup of tea and settle in, I have a lot to share! I was getting together some photos for a post and the number kept growing and growing. I thought about splitting them into a few different posts, and then I thought, "Nah. I'll just do one big, happy, autumn-y post!"

Snuggle down... I've got a WIP, a wee finish, retail therapy finds, fall displays, fall freebies, and even a recipe. Here we go!

Are y'all feeling cozy now?

Here are some links in case y'all want any of these goodies to come live at your house. If there's anything else you see that you're curious about, just ask!

Autumn is Coming Mini Quaker (I'm stitching this on 32 ct. Flax and swapped out GAST Pebble for GAST Parchment.)

Rose Gold & Aqua Stork Scissors (this is the shop I purchased from, but these are available at other Etsy shops)

Counting pins are from Puntini Puntini. I don't know if this exact set is still available.

Banana Bread recipe (I used 3/4 c. sugar and baked for 1 hour, covering with foil after 50 minutes. Make it a day ahead--it's better if it sits a bit.)

Bonus FREEBIES : Wonderful Fall and Goodbye Swallows
