We are safe in our evacuation location. We watched all the coverage of the landfall and have been getting regular communication from the military throughout. We've also been hearing from some of our church family who stayed in the area.
So far, so good. It appears everyone has made it through pretty well. The hurricane approached the coast as a category 3, but was beginning to weaken, with the back side of the storm having completely fallen apart by the time it made landfall as a strong category 2. With the structure of the storm essentially cut in half, once what was left of the eye passed over, there wasn't much more to the storm. That reduced by hours the length of time everything had to withstand damaging winds. It makes a huge difference whether a structure has to withstand three hours of hurricane force winds or six. The storm was also moving along quickly.
It doesn't look like we will be headed home today as the base is closed to all but emergency and recovery personnel, but as soon as the gates reopen, we will be on the road, praying we find everything as we left it.
I know y'all want a werewolves update! They're doing well. They have a travel pen that they sleep in at home, so they are used to having their little fort and all their stuff from home go with them. Butterfly hates the car and howls for a while until she wears herself out, but other than that, they travel very well. They're both eating and snoozing.
Thank you all so much for all of your kind words, well wishes, and prayers. We appreciate them so much.
