Saturday Sampler: Azalea Edition

Last Saturday, Mr. Wonderful and I went for a quick weekend away. We spent a lot of time bundled up on a freezing cold beach watching the sea (okay, not technically freezing, but really cold) and at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Norfolk, VA. The azaleas were losing their minds.

And one of my favorites... looking up at the sun through the lacy foliage of a Japanese Maple. I'm going to have one of these someday.

So that was last Saturday. This Saturday I'm back to my Wedding Sampler after a (way too long) break. I'm tackling a band of modified Rice stitches. Three down, a zillion more to go.

I have moral support at the ready.

Happy Saturday, and Happy Stitching!

  1. What beautiful pictures you shared from the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, Honeybee. I like that last shot with the Japanese Maple. Is that modified rice stitch your own creation? I have never seen one like that before. Hope you will do a how to for us! Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Robin, it's Just Nan's, on the back of the Snowfire Christmas leaflet. I tried to find a diagram to share but couldn't locate one. I'll see what I can do.

  2. Beautiful flowers! Lots of specialty stitches, scary but worth it in the end. My cats are doing the exact same thing as Tiger Lily, snoozing!

  3. Azaleas! *sigh* How I love them! I have three large bushes here in the cold tundra of northeastern PA and they only bloom when the winters are somewhat mild. I should get rid of them but I live for the springs when they are breathtakingly beautiful! We also have two rhododendrons, one of which always blooms or is near blooming too soon and a frost gets it every time.

Glad you were able to get away. Even though the weather was chilly, it's always refreshing to have a change of scenery!
