Needle Minder Organization

While y'all are waiting for me to get my act together and finish my Texas basket, let's talk about needle minders.

It's not exactly a secret that I'm addicted to them. They're functional, fun, and so easy and inexpensive to make that my collection was outgrowing my storage method, which was tins: all my foxes together, Christmas in a Christmas tin, Halloween in a Halloween tin, etc.

Yesterday, I spotted a $7 hanging jewelry organizer at Tuesday Morning, and I was struck with inspiration!

...TA-DA!

Now, instead of hunting for the minder I want in my little tins, I can stand in front of my organizer, see my entire collection, and choose which one I want. Putting them on tags keeps them from sticking together and makes them easier to remove from the pockets, especially if they're really small. And my collection has room to grow!

Speaking of which, here's my latest little creation. This minder is made from a slide I found at Hobby Lobby.

Okay, back to work.

  2. Love this idea!!! What a great way to stay organized. I have not made my first needle minder but you give me so much inspiration to do so. You find the best things. The last three times I've been in all of the craft stores I have not found one thing that would work. You have a good eye for finding gems. RJ @stitching friends forever

  4. Again, brilliant use of your creative mind. I have a tiny little collection of minders thanks to some special people around here but as you said, room to grow.

And I did some baking today, but it wasn't tiny ... now we have to eat 12 cherry turnovers. Ah, what a life!

  5. I have visited my local craft store many times and I keep forgetting to buy a couple of the magnets that you recommended for this. I have one or two items that will be perfect for needle minders. I hope I remember the next time I go. I love your storage solution!

  6. So many different and beautiful needle minders. I have made some made of wood circles and printed out images. I have to be on the look out for some objects to use instead. Yours are all so different. Thank you for the inspiration. I love the way you have them stored now. Easy to see.

    1. LeShawn, I've been experimenting with the printed images on wood disks, too! Haven't perfected them yet, but hopefully will eventually. I think a new printer would help! :O)

    1. Mary, I use neodymium (rare earth) magnets. I used to be able to get them at Michael's, but mine stopped carrying them, so I now get them from Amazon. I use three sizes, depending on the size of the needle minder: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm. The 8 and 10 mm sizes would work for any but the smallest minders, and 6 mm works well for those. I attach them with super glue, my favorite being Loctite Ultragel Control. It's thicker than a lot of super glues, and has a cool bottle design that makes it easy to use.

  14. I can now put note with my Will that another lady has more needle minders than I. I was worried that my daughters would think I was nuts. I love your whole system for storing all your cuties. I have made some of mine too.
