Happy Birthday to us!

Happy Independence Day, fellow Americans! I've mentioned before that I don't really stitch patriotic designs. Being a military family, we are surrounded by flags and other symbols of patriotism every day of our lives, so for me, I don't feel the urge to also stitch them. And as such, my stash of patriotic designs is almost nonexistent.

However.

I am getting excited about our 250th birthday next year! And our 250th year starts today! So, since I have plenty of time on my hands and nothing else I need to stitch (that was a joke) I've decided to throw in a few patriotic designs here and there over the next year. Since I really don't have any, I've been on the hunt and I've found some I really like. I'm interested to see what designers come up with to celebrate our 250th.

I was just barely old enough to remember the Bicentennial and can remember it being a very exciting time. We were stationed on Guam at the time. I would never have imagined that 50 years later I would be a military wife myself. I'm looking forward to stitching a new-to-me theme and sharing them with you. Stay tuned!

Happy Stitching and Happy Independence Day!

  3. Beautiful basket of flowers and our flag, Honeybee! I am looking forward to seeing what you are going to be stitching between now and July 2026. I have decided to make this time "the year of patriotic stitching". I am taking part in the #america250sal on Instagram with a few friends. I started American Collection by Primrose Cottage Stitches. Hope you had a wonderful Independence Day yesterday. Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Oh, that's neat! I'll have to go look up that design. I think it'll be fun to see what everyone is working on over the next year.

  4. IIRC, the hubbub about the Bicentennial started at least 2-3 years before. It seems odd that for the 250th that we've only just started hearing about doing anything special. Maybe it's the names for 250 years - semiquincentennial, bisequencentennial or sestercentennial (had to copy/paste those from another blog!).
Nice design you've stitched - patriotic but not in-your-face, and with those nice cool blue flowers, it works for an all summer display. A good change from the usually used sunflowers.

    1. I was four in 1976 so I don't remember the years leading up to it, but I do remember *everything* being red, white, and blue, stars & stripes, all of that. I remember the excitement. Those names are too much! 😆

I still remember 1976 what a grand year it was, so many celebrations. Looking forward to seeing your progress on all the Patriotic designs.
